Brisbane to Hervey Bay Road Freight

The run north from Brisbane follows the Bruce Highway through Gympie and Maryborough, then turns east to Hervey Bay on the shore of the Great Sandy Strait. Around 290 km, a straightforward few hours of driving, which is why this is a next-day lane rather than a two-day one.

The town itself shapes what moves. Hervey Bay has one of the oldest population profiles in the country, and that drives a freight task most regional centres do not have: medical consumables, mobility equipment, aged care supplies and pharmacy stock arrive steadily and predictably, and much of it matters more than its value suggests. A late delivery of clinical consumables is a different problem from a late delivery of general freight, and we treat it that way.

Tourism is the other half. Hervey Bay is the departure point for K'gari, formerly Fraser Island, and the calmest launching place on this stretch of coast for whale watching. Southbound freight is lighter, which is normal for a service and residential town rather than a producing one. Some seafood, some manufactured product from the Maryborough industrial base, and returns and equipment transfers.
