Australia-wide freight network

Brisbane to Gold Coast Road Freight

Eighty kilometres separates Brisbane from the Gold Coast, and on a good run it is under an hour. The distance is never the problem on this lane. The M1 is, and knowing when to be on it is most of the job. Ozcoast Logistics runs this corridor both ways every day, carrying hospitality and retail stock, fit-out materials and chilled product south, and general freight back. Short enough for same-day when you need it, and priced as the local run it is.

The Brisbane to Gold Coast corridor

This is the shortest lane we operate and the busiest road we use. Freight leaves the Brisbane metropolitan area, joins the Pacific Motorway and runs south through Logan to the Gold Coast. No border, no permits, nothing to plan around except the traffic.

That last part is the whole skill on this corridor. The M1 carries enormous volume, and between roughly seven and nine in the morning and three and six in the afternoon it moves at a fraction of its capacity. An hour's drive becomes two, and a delivery window quoted without accounting for it will be missed. We schedule around the peaks rather than through them, which is why a mid-morning booking often lands earlier than an early one.

The Gold Coast economy shapes what we carry. It is a tourism, hospitality and construction city rather than an industrial or processing one, so hospitality stock, food and beverage, retail replenishment and commercial fit-out materials make up much of the southbound volume, and it lifts hard ahead of school holidays, event weekends and the summer peak. Ongoing high-rise and residential construction keeps building materials moving year-round.

The lane runs full in both directions, which is unusual for a short haul and keeps it efficient. Product from the Gold Coast light industrial estates at Molendinar, Arundel and Yatala heads north, along with returns, transfers and equipment moving between the two cities.

Because the run is short and frequent, part loads move quickly, so you pay for the space you use and rarely wait long. Full loads and urgent freight go on a dedicated vehicle, same day where it matters. One coordinator handles your job start to finish, with a direct line.

The M1 Decides Your Delivery Time

Why timing beats distance on this run

On paper this is an hour. In practice it is anywhere between fifty minutes and well over two hours, and the difference is entirely down to when the truck is on the road.

The Pacific Motorway is one of the heaviest-used corridors in the country, and it has two reliable choke periods: the morning run into Brisbane and the afternoon exodus south. Around Logan, Loganholme and the Coomera stretch, volume builds quickly and clears slowly. Add roadworks, which are more or less permanent somewhere along the M1, and a run that should be straightforward becomes unpredictable.

So we plan around it. A booking scheduled to travel mid-morning or early afternoon frequently arrives sooner than one dispatched at eight, which is counterintuitive until you have sat in it. Where a delivery has a fixed window, we work backwards from the window and pick the departure to suit rather than leaving at the earliest opportunity and hoping.

School holidays and event weekends change the pattern again, and both are frequent on the Gold Coast. Through those periods we build extra time into quotes and tell you if a same-day request is realistic before you commit to it.

If your delivery has a hard window, say so when you book. On a corridor this short that single piece of information is worth more than anything else you can tell us.

Frequently asked questions

How long does freight take from Brisbane to the Gold Coast?
Same day or next business day. It is only 80 km down the M1, well under an hour of actual driving, so the transit is rarely the constraint. What matters is the traffic. Between roughly seven and nine in the morning and three and six in the afternoon, the motorway slows considerably, and a run that should take an hour can take more than two. We schedule around those peaks and confirm a firm window with the quote.
Can you do a same-day delivery?
Usually, yes, and it is one of the better reasons to use this lane. Because the driving is under an hour, a booking placed in the morning can often be delivered the same afternoon. The realistic limits are the motorway peaks and whether the receiver can take the freight when we arrive. Tell us the delivery window when you call and we will tell you straight away whether same-day is achievable rather than promising it and sorting it out later.
Do you carry freight from the Gold Coast back to Brisbane?
Yes, daily, and the return leg is genuinely busy on this corridor, which is unusual for a short haul. Product out of the Yatala, Molendinar and Arundel industrial estates heads north, along with transfers, returns and equipment moving between the two cities. Because the lane runs loaded both ways it is efficient to operate, and that shows up in the price. If you have return freight, mention it at quote stage.
Can you deliver into a hotel or venue?
Yes, and it is a regular part of this lane. Venue and hotel deliveries usually mean a loading dock with restricted access hours, a service lift, or in some cases street-level delivery with no dock at all. Tell us the venue, the access arrangement and any delivery window when you book, because it decides the vehicle as much as the freight does. A rigid truck reaches places a semi-trailer cannot, and knowing that upfront avoids a wasted trip.
Does school holiday traffic affect delivery?
It does, and the Gold Coast gets it more than most places. School holidays, long weekends and event weekends all lift traffic on the M1 well beyond the normal weekday pattern, and southbound Friday afternoons in particular can be slow for hours. Through those periods we build extra time into quotes rather than promising a window we might not hold, and if a same-day request is not realistic we will say so before you commit.
How is a short run like this priced?
On the space and weight you use, not on distance, because at 80 km the kilometres are a small part of the cost. Send pallet count, dimensions, weight and whether it stacks, and you will get an itemised quote with no obligation. Part loads work particularly well here because the lane runs several times a day, so you share a trailer rather than paying for one you cannot fill.
Can you move oversize loads to the Gold Coast?
Yes, on permit, and because the run stays within Queensland the approvals are straightforward. The complication on this corridor is not the paperwork, it is the timing: escorted and over-dimensional movements often cannot travel during peak periods on the motorway, which narrows the window considerably. Send dimensions, mass and any lift requirements early so we can book the right slot rather than working around a refusal.
Do you carry dangerous goods on this lane?
Yes, for approved classes, with the documentation, segregation and placarding each load requires. Give us the UN number, class and packing group at quote stage rather than after the booking. Some classes can share a deck and some cannot, and that decides whether your freight travels as a part load or needs its own vehicle.
